Before beginning the main degree program, students complete a preparatory year of Ukrainian language study at the host university. This preparatory education is free of charge; however, a monthly allowance is not provided during this period.
The academic year for students who study in Ukraine lasts from September 1 to June 30.

Citizens of countries that have bilateral or multilateral educational agreements with Ukraine are eligible to apply for a state scholarship to study in Ukraine.
It covers free tuition at Ukrainian higher education institutions, a monthly allowance (if provided by the agreement), medical care under Ukrainian legislation, dormitory accommodation on the same terms as Ukrainian citizens, and a free one-year Ukrainian language preparatory course.
The scholarship does not cover recognition (nostrification) of foreign education documents, annual medical insurance, visa fees and travel expenses, or the temporary residence permit — these are paid by the student independently.
